Information we collect
WordTally is built to need as little of your information as possible. We do not require an account, and the text you type or paste into the counter is not transmitted to our servers — it is processed locally in your browser. We may automatically collect limited technical information (such as browser type and general usage patterns) to help us understand how the site is used and keep it running reliably.
Cookies
We may use a small number of cookies for essential site functionality, such as remembering your display preferences. We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles of individual visitors.
Local storage
WordTally uses your browser's Local Storage to autosave the text you're working on and to remember settings such as your light/dark mode preference. This data is stored only on your own device and is not accessible to us. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
Browser storage
Beyond Local Storage, the tool does not use additional browser storage mechanisms such as IndexedDB or service-worker caches to store your personal content.
Analytics placeholder
We may use a privacy-conscious analytics service to understand aggregate traffic patterns (for example, which pages are visited and how often). Any such analytics would not have access to the text you enter into the counter tool.
Google AdSense ready
This site may display advertising through providers such as Google AdSense. These providers may use cookies or similar technologies to serve relevant ads and measure their performance, in accordance with their own privacy policies. Pages on this site may link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of external sites, and we encourage you to review their own privacy policies.
Children's privacy
WordTally is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
Data security
Because most processing happens directly in your browser, uploaded or typed text is generally not stored on our servers at all. Where we do handle limited technical or contact data (for example, if you email us), we take reasonable measures to protect it from unauthorized access.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data we hold about you. Since we collect very little personal data by design, most requests can be resolved quickly — contact us using the details below.
